Florida is still evolving. In population stands 4th in the nation.
An essential stop is Miami, from where a short journey south takes you to the Florida Keys, a group of islands offering coral-reef diving, sports fishing, and the town of Key West. North of Miami there are miles of beaches and historical St Augustine which is the longest continuous settlement in the United States.
In central Florida boasts Orlando and Walt Disney World, a leading tourist destination. a jaunt north brings you to the Panhandle, or to towns and beaches of the west coast.
Orlando and south are very mild in winter (Oct. to Apr.), temperatures are warm and humidity is low. This is the peak tourist season, with prices at their highest. The " hurricane season " is from Jun. to Nov.
Florida is a compact state, and easy to get around.: East to west coast can be covered in a couple of hours. All major towns and cities are served by Greyhound buses, Miami and Orlando are served exceptionally well.
Amtrak runs from Jacksonville by way of New Orleans to Los Angeles, and connections with New York are good. The elevated TriRail system carries commuters between Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and Palm Beach.
